Questions Boerne Families Ask Before Starting Care

If your question is not answered here, ask it directly. We would rather give you a plain answer now than have you discover it in week three.

Answers

What exactly is this service?

Privately arranged, non-medical in-home care for older adults in Boerne and Kendall County. Caregivers help with bathing, dressing, meals, housekeeping, medication reminders, transport, companionship and supervision, on a schedule the family sets.

Are you a nursing home, assisted living community or hospice?

No. We do not operate any residential facility, and we are not a hospice, a Medicare-certified home health agency, a skilled nursing agency, a medical provider, a government agency or a senior living directory.

Do caregivers provide medical care?

No. Caregivers cannot perform wound care, injections, IV therapy, catheter care, clinical assessment or therapy. Those require licensed clinicians working under a physician's orders.

Can a caregiver give medication?

A caregiver can remind someone to take medication they self-administer and can bring water and the container. Setting up doses and administering medication fall outside non-medical scope.

What areas do you cover?

Boerne, Fair Oaks Ranch, Leon Springs, Comfort, Sisterdale, Bergheim, Waring and Kendalia, plus parts of northwest San Antonio. Schedules further from town usually work best as longer blocks or live-in arrangements.

How many hours do we have to book?

Minimum shift lengths apply, as they do with any provider, because a caregiver needs a workable window to do something useful. We will tell you the exact minimum when we discuss your schedule.

What does it cost?

Care is billed hourly, or daily for live-in arrangements. The rate depends on shift length, time of day, level of care and distance. We give a weekly total in writing rather than quoting a single number that would not apply to every situation.

Does Medicare or insurance pay for it?

Medicare generally does not cover ongoing non-medical home care. Long-term care insurance often does, and some veterans and surviving spouses may qualify for VA benefits. Eligibility is determined by those programs, not by us.

Will the same caregiver come each time?

That is the goal, and consistency is one of the strongest predictors of whether care works. Cover is arranged when your regular caregiver is unwell or on leave.

Can we change or stop care?

Yes. Care is month to month. Schedules can be increased, reduced or paused, subject to the notice period agreed at the start.

Can care be arranged by an adult child living out of state?

Frequently. Coordination happens by phone and email, with written visit notes so you are not relying on a parent's summary of the week.

What if we are not sure we need care yet?

That is a normal place to start. Describe what you have noticed and we will tell you honestly whether it sounds like a wait, a small start, or a conversation with a physician first.

Still have a question?

Send it with your care request, or call and ask. There is no obligation attached to either.

Prefer to talk it through first? Call XXX-XXX-XXXX. No obligation, and no pressure to decide on the call.
